A Las Barricadas

Spanish anarchist anthem.
From the opening of Vicente Aranda's (1996) film Libertarias:

The summer of 1936. July 18th. The Spanish army rises against the Republican government. July 19th. In Barcelona and Madrid the army is defeated, thanks to the people's heroic efforts. July 20th. The masses demand a revolutionary state. The legal government is unable to control the situation. July 21st. The Spanish Civil War begins - the last idealistic war, the last dream of a people striving for the impossible, for utopia.

"A Las Barricadas" (lyrics translated):

Black storms shake the sky
Dark clouds blind us
Although death and pain await us
Duty calls us against the enemy

The most precious good
is freedom
And we have to defend it
With courage and faith

Raise the revolutionary flag
Which carries the people to emancipation
Raise the revolutionary flag
Which carries the people to emancipation
Working people march onwards to the battle
We have to smash the [right-wing] Reaction.

To the Barricades! To the Barricades!
For the triumph of the Confederation
To the Barricades! To the Barricades!
For the triumph of the Confederation.
